Exodus 39.32-42

32 So all the work on the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, was completed. The Israelites did everything just as the Lord commanded Moses. 33 Then they brought the tabernacle to Moses: the tent and all its furnishings, its clasps, frames, crossbars, posts and bases; 34 the covering of ram skins dyed red and the covering of another durable leather and the shielding curtain; 35 the ark of the covenant law with its poles and the atonement cover; 36 the table with all its articles and the bread of the Presence; 37 the pure gold lampstand with its row of lamps and all its accessories, and the olive oil for the light; 38 the gold altar, the anointing oil, the fragrant incense, and the curtain for the entrance to the tent; 39 the bronze altar with its bronze grating, its poles and all its utensils; the basin with its stand; 40 the curtains of the courtyard with its posts and bases, and the curtain for the entrance to the courtyard; the ropes and tent pegs for the courtyard; all the furnishings for the tabernacle, the tent of meeting; 41 and the woven garments worn for ministering in the sanctuary, both the sacred garments for Aaron the priest and the garments for his sons when serving as priests.

42 The Israelites had done all the work just as the Lord had commanded Moses. 43 Moses inspected the work and saw that they had done it just as the Lord had commanded. So Moses blessed them.

Everyone has done the tasks needed to get the tabernacle ready.  The tents and the altars are ready for worship and sacrifices.  The people are ready to gather in worship.  But the first thing we see is that Moses offers a blessing to the people.  I keep thinking he uses the blessing we will see in Numbers 6:

24 “‘“The Lord bless you
    and keep you;
25 the Lord make his face shine on you
    and be gracious to you;
26 the Lord turn his face toward you
    and give you peace.”’

But regardless of which words he uses, I hear it as the blessing stated by Moses, yet coming from God.  It is like several parts of worship we still have today.  Times in worship when we hear someone from our midst say the words, but we know that the words are from God to us.

At the beginning of worship we hear a Call to Worship, where we are called by God into his presence to worship him.  We hear God greet us.  Letting us know we are welcome in his presence and that we enter by his grace.  We hear God speak comforting words of assurance to us.  As we have come to him we are reminded that we receive his grace and forgiveness, and that his grace is always upon us.  We hear his words read to us from at least on text from the Bible.  God revealing himself to us and showing us who we are and how we live as his people.  We hear God’s blessing upon us as we conclude our time of worship together and we go into the world to live as his people.

We might not hear each part every Sunday.  We might not be able to hear it out of our distractions, our inability to be in each part of the service, we just might not hear it said this time.  But there is always a time in worship that we hear from God as we have come to worship him.  God speaks in worship, even if we are only able to hear the final words of blessing, knowing that he sends us out and goes out with us.  Knowing that God gives his blessing to us as his people, just out of who he calls us to be and who he declares us to be, his people, called by his name.

Hear God’s blessing on your life today, as you live where he places you.  God is with us and gives us his blessing.

    and give you peace.”’
