Seeking Wisdom

Proverbs 24.13-14

Saying 26

13 Eat honey, my son, for it is good;
    honey from the comb is sweet to your taste.
14 Know also that wisdom is like honey for you:
    If you find it, there is a future hope for you,
    and your hope will not be cut off.

TV and movies have been teaching us that fathers have very little to offer.  We seldom see a father figure to look up to in most of these forms of entertainment.  Yet, when we look at so many sections of wisdom in the Bible we find that there is a pattern of seeing the wisdom of our fathers.  Here we see the father telling children to look at wisdom, which brings hope and a future.

Wisdom in Proverbs often leads us to hearing God and following him in life.  And as I hear this proverb again today I am reminded of one of the pieces of wisdom I was given growing up.  Going off to school hearing those words – “Remember who you are and whose you are.”  Being told that as a child of their family and as a child of God, that is how I should live.

See the wisdom of God in life.  He has made us and knows what we need.  He has made us and knows what is best for us.  He has made us and wants us to have life.  Our lives are not about what we have, they are about who we are.  Our lives are about who God tells us we are.  And as we live out of who we are – following God’s wisdom – we live into the future of hope he has promised us.

SongHow Deep the Father’s Love For Us

We praise you, our Father, for making your divine truth real to us in Jesus Christ.  We ask that what we do, how we live, and the way we love, may increasingly become a worthy response.  Amen.
